Interlibrary Loan Policy

Reference Services offers Interlibrary Loan through resource sharing with cooperating libraries. You may borrow books and get copies of articles from other libraries through Bossard Library. Please contact the library for more information at 446-READ.

Because of the increased demand for Interlibrary Loan items that are not returned to the lending library, Bossard Memorial Library has adopted the following change of policy regarding these items. As staff, we believe that it is only fair if the patron is fully notified of this policy and the reasons for it.

1. The patron will be held responsible for returning the item to the Bossard Memorial Library Reference Department by the due date. The patron will be billed for all charges and late fees imposed by the lending library.

2. If for any reason, the item is not returned to Bossard Memorial Library, we will contact the lending library and they will determine the cost of the missing item. In the past, those charges have been as high as $300 for one book. The patron will be billed for the full amount charged.

Failure by the patron to pay the cost of the missing item will result in suspension of all lending privileges at Bossard Memorial Library until such time as their account is cleared.

We believe that interlibrary loan is a valuable service. It is very important that we maintain our good lending status with other libraries. We want the borrower to understand the rules up front to avoid penalties.

Betty Clarkson, Director Adopted by Dr. Samuel L. Bossard Memorial Library Board of Trustees, 1/4/93; Revised 4/14/98.
