Mission Statement

We believe that learning is a celebration of life, and that reading is the best way to enjoy the experience.

Our mission as a public library is to support the lifelong learning experiences and activities of the people who live in, work in, or wish to learn about, Gallipolis and Gallia County, Ohio.

In fulfilling our mission, we will:

Build a collection of services and materials representing the past, present, and potential educational and recreational needs of the people in our service area, attempting to provide fair access to information representative of various learning styles and abilities, from pre-school through adulthood:

Reach out to patrons whose access is limited by traditional building, material, and service formats and resources:

Encourage the preservation of resources which represent the growth and development of the historyk heritage, culture and customs of the people who represent Gallia County to Ohio and to the world both in our rapidly changing present and in the uncertain future;

Create a facility which is healthy, safe, accessible, and conducive to learning.

Provide staff who are enthusiastic learners and readers, trained to assist the public, both in their various learning styles and in the myriad of interests they represent...regardless of educational attainment through formal schooling;

Be fiscally sound in utilizing the available resources and regularly report to the public the status of our financial condition;

Explore various avenues for alternative and supplemental funding;

Keep the public informed of activities at the library, and stay informed and involved in and of community events;

Encourage the development of an active Friends of the Library organization, for fund raising and the support of library activities and services; and

Conduct all activities in a manner which reflects the high value we place both on our customers and on the roles and practices of the library profession.
