Mayhem, Murder, and Madams: A Place Called Dogham

On Sunday, June 14, 2026 at 2:00 PM, join us for "Mayhem, Murder, and Madams", and learn about some of the fascinating people and crimes from a little area of Gallipolis known as Dogham.

From the 1890s -1910s, Dogham was a location filled with excessive drinking leading to mayhem, uncontrolled violence leading to murder, and prostitution controlled by local madams.

The Gallipolis Daily Tribune described the area as a "shady scummery", an "odorous locality", and a "haunt and headquarters for all the lowest characters."

This local history program is presented by Becky Birchfield and the Bossard Memorial Library Reference Department.

This event is free and open to all.
